Imagine your child clamoring to read books. Imagine them eagerly practicing their reading at a high level of comprehension. Imagine them proudly displaying their reading achievements and doing better in all subjects. All of this can happen with Accelerated Reader (AR).
AR provides the essential practice component of their core reading curriculum. In addition to making reading practice fun and exciting for every student, AR gives your child continuous feedback to personalize instruction so every student achieves maximum success.
How Does AR Work? It's as Easy as 1-2-3 Accelerated Reader Enterprise creates excitement for reading in three easy steps. At the same time, it helps you continuously guide your child to books that will maximize growth.
1. Student Reads a Book. Students choose AR books at their appropriate reading levels and read them at their own pace.
2. Student Takes a Quiz. Accelerated Reader offers thousands of quizzes to help motivate and monitor increased reading practice.
3. Immediate Feedback. The students will immediate see their results on the screen. They will receive a print out for each test taken. This will show the book title, level, and points received. They record this into their AR Log in their BEE notebook.
What now? At the beginning of each quarter I will set an AR goal for your child. The goal will be kept in their AR reading log in the BEE notebook. You and I can monitor the progress towards their goal.
In the classroom we will track points with bee hives. At marked hives, your child will receive prizes (candy, shoes off for the day, rolling chair, free ice cream, etc.).
There is also a 1st grade point system. It is displayed at the end of the hallway using race cars. Our class is the blue car. Our car moves as we get closer to 100% of our individual goals.
At the end of each nine weeks, those students that have met their individual AR goal and maintained an accuracy of 85% of higher will attend an exciting AR party!!
